BEATRICE – Construction continues at YMCA Béatrice on a project that will add approximately six thousand square feet of space. General manager Alison Leonard says this involves a new use of the current space, as well as a new area in front of the facility.
“We will almost triple our wellness center. The six thousand square foot addition will go to the coffee bar area and our lobby … it’s my favorite place because it’s where people build relationships, celebrate birthdays and that kind of stuff. We’re going to add two new studios upstairs with the wellness center … and we’re going to add a mini-gym, where our current racquetball courts used to be. “
The organization will double its space for the YMCA Discovery Zone and add a new teaching kitchen to teach people how to eat well.
Leonard says a space will be added to the swimming area to help visualize the competitions.
“We have a lot of swimmers that come from Freeman, Norris and Fairbury that we cooperate with, in high school. So it will be good for these parents to be able to see … and then also our second year swimming lessons. to finish… we had 183 children The swimming lessons that we do throughout the year… we will also have the opportunity for these parents to supervise their children in the swimming area.
A conference room and new wellness facilities will be added. As the project continues, Leonard says the daily workouts and programs continue.
“What has been fantastic is that our members have been really great to accompany us. We haven’t really lost any members. we’ve had in the 19 years I’ve been here. Some people are just ready to go out and get started … but they’re also excited to be a part of the project. “
Leonard says about 90% of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and then the renovation of the locker rooms will begin, including a family locker room. This work will take another six months or so.
